    Games and challenges

    • Color scavenger hunt: spin, then everyone has two minutes to find three objects of that color in the room. For young children, keep only the first 11 colors.
    • One-color drawing: draw anything using only shades of the color you landed on, plus black and white.
    • Palette builder: spin three times with Remove the winner after each spin on and design a poster, a room or an outfit using only those three.
    • Color photo walk: take ten photos of things in your color on a walk. The photography challenge wheel has more ideas.
    • Outfit of the day: spin in the morning and wear one thing in that color.

    A note on the slices

The slices are colored by the wheel’s theme, not by the color written on them, so a slice that says “Green” may look orange. Read the label: that is the result.

If you work with code or design, some of these names are also standard web color names. In CSS, for example, coral is #FF7F50, teal is #008080, navy is #000080 and indigo is #4B0082. Other names, like Peach or Mint, are everyday names that cover a range of shades.

    Make it yours

For a class learning colors in another language, type the color words in that language. For a painting group, swap in pigment names you own, like Ultramarine, Burnt sienna and Cadmium yellow. Save each version in My wheels.

    Questions and answers

Can I teach colors to toddlers with this?

Yes, with a short list. Keep Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange and Purple, spin, and ask the child to point to something in that color. Press Spin together for the fun of watching it slow down.

    Is gray spelled grey anywhere?

The wheel uses US spelling, “Gray”. Change it to “Grey” in the list if that is what your students expect; your edit is kept on your device.
