    Games and activities

    • Animal walks (PE warm-up): spin and move like the animal for 30 seconds: bear crawl, frog jumps, a low belly crawl for the crocodile, flamingo balance on one leg. Five spins make a warm-up.
    • Charades: a player spins secretly and acts out the animal with no sounds. The guesser who gets it spins next.
    • Twenty questions: one player spins with the screen turned away; everyone else asks yes or no questions (“Does it live in water?”) and has 20 questions to name it.
    • Draw it in 60 seconds: everyone draws the same animal against the clock, then compares. Penguins look easy until you try one.

    Research projects (grades 2–5)

    1. Each student spins an animal; turn on Remove the winner after each spin so every student gets a different one.
    2. Students find five facts: habitat, diet, size, one adaptation, and whether it is a mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish or invertebrate.
    3. Share in a gallery walk or a one-minute talk.

With 40 animals, a class of 30 still leaves a few in reserve for absent students or a second round.

    Make it yours

Swap in animals from your unit: an ocean list, farm animals for kindergarten, or animals of one continent. For drawing practice with poses and settings, the animal drawing wheel adds those for you.

    Questions and answers

    Is a jellyfish a fish?

No, despite the name. Jellyfish have no bones and no brain; they are invertebrates, related to corals. It makes a great “classify it” question when it comes up.

Can I use this for Pictionary-style games?

Yes. Animals are good drawing words for younger players. For a wider mix of objects and actions, try the Pictionary-style words wheel.
