How to play draw and guess

    1. Split into teams of 2–5 and give each team paper and a thick marker, or use a whiteboard.
    2. The drawer spins privately, with the screen turned away from their team, and has 60 seconds to draw.
    3. No letters, numbers or spoken clues. Gestures are allowed at first, but most groups ban them after round one.
    4. A correct guess scores a point. Rotate the drawer each round so everyone draws at least twice.

    Word difficulty, roughly

    LevelExamplesGood for
EasyCat, sun, house, fish, kiteAges 5–7, warm-up rounds
MediumRocket, castle, butterfly, umbrellaAges 8 and up
TrickyLighthouse, tornado, telescope, waterfallTeens, adults, bonus rounds

To play by level, delete the words you do not want, or weight the easy ones (“Cat *2”) so younger players land on them more often. A tricky word guessed in time can score double.

Teachers can swap in this week’s vocabulary: drawing a word is a strong memory hook, and guessing it is a quick review. Families can add inside jokes, pets and favorite places.

    Questions and answers

What makes a good word to draw?

A single, concrete object with a recognizable shape. “Bicycle” works; “happiness” does not. If you cannot picture it as a black outline on white paper, skip it.

How long should each drawing round be?

Sixty seconds suits most groups. Give kids under 8 up to 90 seconds, and for adults who know the game well, try 30 seconds for a faster, louder round.

Can we play on a video call?

Yes. The drawer spins on their own screen without sharing it, then draws on paper and holds it up to the camera. If you edited the list, send everyone the Share link first so the words match.
