How to run the contest
- Pick one behavior you want more of and make it countable: meetings booked, deals closed, renewals, follow-ups logged. One contest, one metric, two to four weeks.
- Set spin thresholds rather than a single winner, for example one spin per five meetings booked. Everyone who clears the bar earns a spin, so it isn’t only the top seller who plays.
- Spin at the weekly sales meeting, in full screen on the big screen or a shared call, and let each rep press Space for their own spin.
- Track spins earned in your CRM or a shared sheet. The Results tab shows what each spin landed on, and when.
Choosing prizes everyone wants
Keep prizes modest and close in value, so the spin is fun rather than a gamble on a big payout. Mix time (a late start, half a day off), experiences (lunch with a mentor) and small items. People often remember time and experiences longer than cash of the same value.
This list has no alcohol and nothing tied to one sport, team or diet. Check that every prize works for remote reps too: a parking spot is no use to someone working from home, so swap in a delivered snack box. Time-off prizes need a manager’s approval before they go on the wheel.
Make it yours
- Weight the cheap ones: “Choose the playlist *3” keeps the budget steady while the half day off stays special.
- Team prizes: add a line like “Team lunch for everyone” for spins the whole team earns by hitting target together.
- One wheel for every region: save the final list under My wheels and send managers the Share link.
- Taxes: in some countries, gift cards and other prizes count as taxable pay. Check with payroll or HR before you buy.
Questions and answers
Doesn’t luck make a sales contest unfair?
Luck only decides which prize, not who wins one. Spins are earned by hitting the goal, and every prize on the wheel is worth having. That keeps the contest motivating for steady performers who would never top a leaderboard.
How big should the prize budget be?
Small. A typical contest runs on the cost of a team lunch or two. When prizes get large, people chase the prize and start gaming the metric, for example by booking meetings that will never close.
Should we reward individuals or the whole team?
Both work. Individual spins reward effort, while a team spin when everyone hits target gets people helping each other. Many teams mix the two, and some add a spin for the best peer-nominated assist.
