Random country wheel

A wheel holds at most 100 slices, so this one carries 100 countries spread across every inhabited continent. It is a mix, not all 193 UN member states: for complete lists, use the continent wheels.

    What is on this wheel

There are 193 UN member states, and a wheel tops out at 100 slices, so this list is a sample chosen to cover the whole map: 23 countries from Europe (Russia counted here), 23 from Asia (Türkiye counted here), 23 from Africa, 14 from North America including Central America and the Caribbean, all 10 Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of South America, and 7 from Oceania. Antarctica has no countries, so it has no slices.

If you need every country on a continent, spin the European country wheel, the African country wheel or the Asian and South American wheels in this section. Each one is complete and says which definition it uses.

Geography games to play with it

    • Find it: spin, then the player has 30 seconds to point to the country on a map or globe. One point for a correct find, two if they can also name a neighbor.
    • Border hop: name a country that shares a land border with the result. Island nations such as Iceland, Japan or Fiji have none, so for those, name the nearest country across the sea instead.
    • Three facts: good for ages 8–12. Each child spins once and has one lesson to find the capital, the main language and one thing the country is known for, then reports back in a minute.
    • Travel journal: spin once a week and cook a dish, listen to a song or read a story from that country.

    Make it yours

Delete countries you have already covered, or clear the box and type the ones from this term’s syllabus. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin so a quiz never repeats a country. To focus on a region without rebuilding the list, give those countries a weight: “Kenya *3” lands three times as often. Save your version under My wheels, or copy a Share link for your class.

    Questions and answers

Why aren’t all the countries of the world on the wheel?

The wheel has a limit of 100 entries, and the world has 193 UN member states plus two observer states (Vatican City and Palestine). Rather than cut a continent, this wheel samples all of them. The continent wheels hold complete lists, and you can paste up to 100 of your own.

Which continent do Russia and Türkiye count as?

Both span Europe and Asia. Here Russia is counted with Europe and Türkiye with Asia, which matches how the UN groups them in its statistics. Kazakhstan, which also crosses the line, is counted with Asia.

Is it a good way to pick a holiday destination?

As a daydream, yes. For a real trip, cut the list down to places you can reach and afford first, then spin. The vacation type wheel can decide what kind of trip it should be.
