How to plan a trip with the wheel
- Agree on the limits first: dates, rough budget and how far you can travel. Delete any type that does not fit. A ski trip in August or a cruise on a camping budget only leads to a re-spin.
- Let each person add one type of their own, then spin. Decide in advance whether the result is binding or whether everyone gets one veto.
- Once you have the type, spin for the place. The world city wheel suits a city break; the US national park wheel suits a hiking or camping trip.
Ideas for families and friends
- Families with young kids: keep trips with short travel days, like a farm stay, theme park, lake house or visit to family, and give “Staycation *2” extra weight for a cheaper year.
- Friends splitting costs: remove cruises and spa weekends if they are out of budget, then spin. Camping, road trips and cabins are easy to share.
- Long weekends: spin once per long weekend at the start of the year and you have a calendar of mini-trips with something different each time.
- Mystery trip: one person spins in secret and plans it; everyone else only learns the type when they pack.
Make it yours
The list leans on trips most people can take from home in a week or less. Add the ones you dream about (“Northern lights”, “Interrail”), delete the ones that do not appeal, and save the list under My wheels. Share link sends the exact list to everyone in the group chat, so they can spin it too.
Questions and answers
What if nobody likes the result?
That is useful information. If the whole family groans at “Camping”, take it off the wheel for good and spin again. If one person groans, they can use their veto, if you agreed on vetoes before spinning.
Can I add specific destinations instead of types?
Yes. Clear the box and type places, one per line, up to 100. Many people use both: spin the type here, then spin a list of places that match it.
Is a staycation really a vacation?
It counts if you treat it like one: no chores, no work email, and day trips you would plan for a tourist. Spin the weekend activity wheel for things to fill the days.
