How to spin a date night
- Decide first whether tonight is “in” or “out”, then remove the other kind. It takes a minute and saves a spin you will both veto.
- One of you spins. The other gets one veto per month, used sparingly.
- Give yourselves 15 minutes to sort out what you need: a recipe, the park, the game. Then phones go face down.
Free and cheap date ideas that work
- Recipe from abroad: pick a country neither of you has visited, find one classic dish and cook it together. Spin the cuisine wheel if you can’t choose.
- Stargazing: a blanket, a dark spot away from streetlights and 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust. A free star map app helps you name what you see.
- Plan a dream trip: a notebook, two hours and no budget limits. It is free and you learn a lot about each other.
- Photo walk: each of you takes ten photos on a theme like “circles” or “red things”, then you compare over a hot drink.
- Trivia night at home: each person writes ten questions about things they love. Loser makes dessert.
Make it yours
Keep two lists in My wheels, “Date in” and “Date out”, and add the places in your town. If you have a regular date night, turn on Remove the winner after each spin and work through the whole wheel before repeating anything. Twenty-eight dates is about half a year of weekly evenings.
Questions and answers
We have kids. What works after bedtime?
Anything from the “in” half: cook together, a puzzle, karaoke with the volume low, planning a trip, a movie night in. Remove the outdoor ideas and save that version as your weeknight wheel.
Can we add our own ideas?
Yes. Type them into the box next to the wheel, one per line. Each of you adding three ideas the other doesn’t see first makes the spin more fun.
