    Easy, middling and weekend projects

Know what you are signing up for before you spin. If it is 8 p.m. on a Tuesday, set the projects to “*0”.

    • Under 30 minutes, little skill: ice cream sundae, banana split, s’mores, rocky road bars, chocolate chip cookies.
    • An hour or so: brownies, fruit crumble, lemon bars, cupcakes, rice pudding, bread pudding.
    • Weekend projects: pavlova, cheesecake, tiramisu, crème brûlée, baklava, pecan pie. Several need hours to chill or set.

Ways to use the dessert wheel

    • Baking club: spin once a month, everyone bakes the same dessert and compares.
    • Birthday request: let the birthday person spin three times and choose one of the three.
    • Bakery run: clear the list, type what the local bakery sells, and spin at the counter.
    • Dessert after a spin for dinner: use the what to eat wheel for the main course, then come back here.

Notes on a few of the trickier ones

Crème brûlée needs a kitchen torch or a very hot broiler to caramelize the sugar on top. Pavlova is a meringue, so it needs dry weather and a slow, low oven, then cooling inside the oven. Classic tiramisu uses raw eggs; look for a recipe that cooks them if you are serving young children or anyone pregnant.

    Questions and answers

    Can I make it a no-bake wheel?

Yes. Keep the sundae, banana split, rocky road bars, mochi (from a shop), panna cotta and cheesecake (no-bake version), then add your own fridge desserts. Save it in My wheels as “No oven”.

How do I add family recipes?

Type them into the box, one per line, under any name your family uses. They stay on this device for this page, and Reset brings back the original list.

    What desserts suit a crowd?

Brownies, lemon bars, rocky road and sheet-cake cupcakes cut into many pieces. Set the rest to “*0” before spinning for a party.
