    The Sunday lunch routine

    1. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin.
    2. Spin five times. If two results need the same base (pasta salad and noodle salad), keep both: cook one big pot and pack it two ways.
    3. Cook the grains, pasta or eggs on Sunday evening. Most lunches here then take five minutes to pack.
    4. Keep Leftovers on the wheel. When it lands, cook a little extra dinner the night before.

    Keep packed lunches safe

Anything with meat, fish, eggs, dairy or cooked rice should stay cold. Pack it with an ice pack in an insulated bag, and get it into a fridge when you can. Food safety agencies advise not leaving perishable food at room temperature for more than about two hours, and less on a hot day.

Soups and chili go in a flask filled with boiling water first for a few minutes, then emptied and filled with the hot food. It stays warm until lunch.

    A kids’ lunchbox version

For school, clear the list and build it from parts your child already eats: a main (wrap, sandwich, pasta, crackers and cheese), plus a fruit and a vegetable. Let them spin for the main each morning. Check your school’s rules first: many schools are nut-free, so leave peanut butter off the wheel if yours is.

    Questions and answers

What lunches keep best without a fridge?

Grain bowls with a vinegar dressing, hummus with sturdy vegetables like carrots and peppers, and a flask of soup hold up well. Keep anything creamy, eggy or fishy cold with an ice pack.

Can I make a wheel just for salads?

Yes. Clear the box and type the salads you like, one per line, then save it in My wheels. A second wheel of dressings and a third of toppings make a different salad every day from the same shopping.

I work from home. Does it still help?

It helps more. Without a packed lunch, the default is whatever is fastest. Spin in the morning and you have a plan for a proper break at midday.
