Which parks are on the wheel
The National Park Service manages more than 400 sites, but only 63 are national parks in name. This wheel has all 63, as of 2025, from Acadia in Maine to the National Park of American Samoa in the South Pacific. The newest is New River Gorge in West Virginia, which became a national park in 2020. Names are short forms: “Redwood” is Redwood National and State Parks, and “Great Sand Dunes” is Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
If Congress adds a park, type it into the box. Your edits stay on this device, and Reset returns the original 63.
Planning a park trip with the wheel
- Delete parks you cannot reach this year. Eight are in Alaska, several of them reachable only by plane or boat, and four are on islands far from the mainland: American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaiʻi’s two parks.
- Spin for the park. If you land somewhere you have been, use Spin again or keep it as an excuse to go back.
- Check the park’s official page for opening dates, road closures and whether you need a timed-entry reservation before you set off.

Park quiz ideas
- Which state? Spin and name the state. California has the most parks (9), Alaska is second (8), and Utah has its “Mighty Five”: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion.
- Superlatives: Yellowstone was the first (1872). Wrangell-St. Elias is the largest. Gateway Arch in St. Louis is the smallest.
- Draw it: spin and sketch what you picture there, then look up photos. It works well with the drawing prompt wheel.
Questions and answers
Are national monuments or seashores on the wheel?
No. Places like the Statue of Liberty, Cape Cod National Seashore or Mount Rushmore are run by the National Park Service but are not national parks by title. Add your favorites if your list is about NPS sites in general.
Which state has the most national parks?
California, with nine: Channel Islands, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Kings Canyon, Lassen Volcanic, Pinnacles, Redwood, Sequoia and Yosemite. Death Valley also reaches into Nevada.
Can I pick a park by region?
Yes. Delete the rest, or save regional wheels (the Southwest, the Rockies, the East) under My wheels. Spin the US state wheel first if you want the state to decide.
