    Beat the backlog

    1. Delete genres you own nothing in, so every slice points at a real game.
    2. Spin. Pick the game in that genre you have played least.
    3. Give it a fair trial: one hour, or until the first save point after the tutorial.
    4. If it clicks, keep going. If not, drop it from your list without guilt and spin again next session.

Try a genre you have never played

Most players stick to three or four genres for years. A month of genre spins is an easy way to find a new favorite: spin once a week and look for a well-reviewed, short game in that genre. Games under 10 hours lower the risk.

    • First roguelike? Expect to fail a lot early. Each run teaches you something, and that is the design.
    • New to strategy? Turn-based games let you think as long as you like before every move.
    • Rhythm games: start on the easiest setting, even if you play an instrument.

    Other uses

    • Game jams: spin a genre, then spin the gaming challenge wheel for a twist, and build in 48 hours.
    • Family co-op night: keep only genres where you own local co-op games (party game, platformer, sports, racing) and let the kids spin.
    • Content ideas: creators can spin a genre for a themed video or a stream week.

    Questions and answers

What is the difference between a roguelike and a metroidvania?

A roguelike sends you back to the start when you lose, usually with a newly generated layout each run. A metroidvania is one large, connected map that opens up as you find new abilities, and you keep your progress.

Is this wheel suitable for kids?

The genre names are, but games inside a genre vary a lot. Check the age rating of the specific game before playing; some genres, like shooters, lean toward older ratings, so delete them from a child’s list.

Can I put my actual games on it?

Yes. Replace the genres with game titles, one per line, and save it in My wheels as your backlog. Remove each game from the list when you finish it.
