Two ways to use it
- Spin for a type: keep the list and delete the types you do not own. When the wheel lands on “Deduction game”, choose which one from your shelf. Good for big collections.
- Spin for a title: clear the list and type the names of your games, one per line. Weight the ones you want to play more (“Game name *2”) and add “*0” to any with missing pieces, so they stay listed but out of the spin.
Save each version in My wheels: one called “Game types”, one called “Our shelf”.
Match the game to the night
The quickest route to a good night is deleting what does not fit before you spin. Use this as a starting point for trimming the list.
| Situation | Keep these on the wheel |
|---|---|
| Under 30 minutes | Quick card game, roll-and-write, dexterity, party game |
| Kids at the table | Kids’ pick, co-op, classic, dexterity |
| Two players | Two-player duel, drafting, tile-laying |
| Six or more players | Party game, word game, trivia, bluffing |
| A long evening | Heavy strategy, worker placement, area control, deck builder |
Settling it fairly
Agree on one rule before spinning: the result is final, or each player gets one veto per night. The person who chose the last game does not spin this time.
If two games keep tying, put just those two on the this or that wheel for a head-to-head.
Questions and answers
What are co-op, deduction and drafting games?
In a co-op game, everyone plays together against the game. In a deduction game, you work out hidden information, like who is bluffing or where something is hidden. In a drafting game, you take a card from a hand and pass the rest along, so each choice also decides what your neighbor gets.
How do I get my family to try a heavier game?
Put it on the wheel among familiar games instead of announcing it. When it comes up, play a short teaching round first and keep the first session under an hour.
Is this the same as the game night wheel?
No. The game night wheel lists classic card, dice and paper games you can play without owning boxed games. This one is for choosing from a shelf of board games.
