    Ways to use it

    • Genre of the week: spin on Monday and listen to three albums in that genre by Sunday, one old, one recent, one recommended by someone else. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin and you have more than half a year of discovery.
    • Party DJ: every 20 minutes someone spins and picks the next three songs from that genre. Disco and funk are rarely a bad result.
    • Name that genre: one person spins in secret and plays 15 seconds of a song from the result. First to name the genre scores a point. Great for music class with older students.
    • Dance challenge: spin, play a track, and everyone dances in the style it suggests. Opera is the funniest result.
    • Songwriting prompt: spin twice and write a short song that mixes both, like a bluegrass verse with a hip-hop chorus.

Where to start in a new genre

A genre you have never listened to can feel like a wall. Start with a well-known “best of” compilation or a classic album that critics in that genre still recommend, then follow the artists it leads you to. Thirty minutes of listening with full attention, not as background, teaches you more than a week of shuffle.

    Make it yours

The list mixes broad families (Rock, Electronic) with specific styles (Ska, Bossa nova). Narrow it to your taste: a jazz fan might replace everything with Bebop, Swing, Cool jazz, Fusion and Latin jazz. Save each version in My wheels.

    Questions and answers

Can I use this to pick songs for a playlist?

Yes. Spin a genre for each slot in the playlist, or replace the genres with song titles and spin to set the order. Weighting a favorite (“Disco *2”) gives it a bigger share of the night.

Why are some big genres missing?

Twenty-eight slices is already a lot to read on a phone. Add what you miss, such as Grunge, House, Reggaeton or Baroque, by typing it into the list. The wheel takes up to 100 entries.
