True or false wheel

Two slices: True and False. On its own it is a coin; with a group, it is the start of a bluffing game where nobody knows which slice you got.

How to play fact or fib

    1. The speaker looks at the wheel while everyone else covers their eyes, and spins.
    2. On True, the speaker tells a real fact about themselves. On False, they make up one that sounds real.
    3. Everyone votes: thumbs up for true, thumbs down for false.
    4. Each correct guess scores a point. The speaker scores a point for every person they fooled.
    5. Pass to the left. Play two rounds each for a group of six; it takes about 15 minutes.

It works as an icebreaker from about age eight, and the spin removes the hardest part: deciding whether to lie.

    Quiz review in class

The teacher spins and, depending on the slice, says one true or one false statement about the unit (“Spiders have six legs”). Students write T or F on a mini whiteboard and hold it up. You can see in a glance who has it, and the false statements make great talking points for common mistakes.

Flip it for older students: they spin, then write their own true or false statement for a partner to judge. Writing a good false statement takes real understanding.

    Make it yours

    • More bluffing: weight “False *2” so fibs come up twice as often and the table cannot assume truth.
    • Add a twist slice: “Your choice” lets the speaker decide.
    • Topic rounds: give each round a theme, like animals, history or the place you live.

    Questions and answers

How do I keep my spin secret?

Spin on your own phone with the screen turned away, or have everyone close their eyes while the wheel is on the shared screen. Then click Hide on the winner card before they open them.

Are True and False equally likely?

Yes, each is 50%, unless you add a weight. Streaks of three or four of the same are normal in a short game.

Can I add “Not sure” or “Maybe”?

You can, as a third slice. For a full set of soft answers, the maybe wheel is ready-made.
