    The rules

    • Rock beats scissors: rock blunts scissors.
    • Scissors beat paper: scissors cut paper.
    • Paper beats rock: paper covers rock.
    • Same throw: a tie. Throw again.

Against the wheel, say your throw out loud (or write it down) before you press Spin, so there is no changing it.

    Ways to play

    • You against the wheel: best of five, first to three wins. Keep score with the Results tab, which lists every throw.
    • Proxy match: two players each spin the wheel once, and the throws battle. Useful when one player is a young child who still changes hands at the last second.
    • Classroom tournament: pair students off, each pair plays one round against each other, winners move on. The wheel settles ties that keep repeating.
    • Long-distance: send the Share link to a friend. You each spin, then compare by message.

Why playing a wheel is different

People are not good at being random. Many players repeat a throw after winning and switch after losing, and a sharp opponent learns your habits within a few rounds. The wheel has no habits: each throw is a fresh one-in-three chance, so the best you can do over time is win about a third, tie a third and lose a third.

Want to add a twist? Type extra throws into the box and agree the rules with your group first. Keep the number of throws odd (three, five, seven) so that each throw beats exactly half of the others and the game stays balanced.

    Questions and answers

    Can I beat the wheel?

Not over the long run. With three equal slices, no throw is better than another. Short winning streaks will happen and feel great.

What can rock paper scissors decide?

Anything two people would flip a coin for: who goes first, who picks the movie, who gets the front seat. For more than two people, the who goes first wheel or a coin flip knockout is quicker.

Does it work for young kids?

Yes, from about age four. Let them press Space to spin and shout their throw first. It also helps them learn the three rules.
