Number wheel 1 to 10

Ten numbers, ten wide slices, each with the same chance. It is the wheel to reach for with young children, small groups and anything that needs a number you can count on your fingers.

    Counting games for ages 3–6

    • Show me: spin, then everyone holds up that many fingers. Say the number out loud together.
    • Count and move: the number is how many jumps, claps or stomps the group does. Keep it to ten so little legs last the whole game.
    • Make ten: spin a 6 and the child says what goes with it to make 10 (4). Number bonds to ten are the backbone of early addition, and the wheel turns drilling them into a game.
    • Ten frame: draw a 2 × 5 grid on paper, spin, and fill that many boxes with counters or crayon dots.

    Guess my number

    1. One player secretly writes a number from 1 to 10.
    2. Everyone else takes turns guessing; the writer answers only “higher” or “lower”.
    3. Whoever guesses it spins the wheel to choose the next secret number, so nobody has to think one up.

With careful halving you never need more than four guesses on a 1–10 range. Older kids enjoy working out why.

    Other everyday uses

Number up to ten players and spin for who goes first. Spin a rep count for a quick break between homework pages. Number your takeout menu’s top ten dishes and let the wheel order. For a bigger range or several numbers at once, the random number generator is quicker; for 1–20 there is a 1–20 wheel.

    Questions and answers

Does every number have the same chance?

Yes. Each of the ten slices has a 1 in 10 chance on every spin, and a number that just came up is as likely as any other to come up again. If you want to favor one, add a weight such as “7 *2”.

How do I get the numbers 1 to 10 without repeats?

Turn on Remove the winner after each spin in Options. After ten spins every number has appeared exactly once, which gives you a random order for ten players or ten tasks. Press Reset to start again.

Can I start at 0 instead?

Type 0 on a new line in the entry box and delete the 10, or use the digit wheel, which already runs from 0 to 9.
